The Starling murmuration was substantial and spectacular this evening 4.15 - 4.30pm. From the A1M junction 52 at Catterick take the relief road about 500 metres south until you are about 100 metres before the sign for Catterick and for Tunstall. You can pull off the road safely into a substantial but unused gateway. The birds are going into roost beside the pond between the relief road and the A1M.

Exciting large passage of winter thrushes through Sandbeck valley, Richmond, from first light this morning. Most heavy between 0800 - 0900 when c1500 birds moved through, mainly in flocks of 30-40 though two flocks were 100+. Most were Fieldfares though small numbers of Redwings and, unusually, one flock of c20 Blackbirds. The movement had dried up by 0930. Autumn is really here now!
