Surprise new addition to the garden list today when a Stonechat hit the kitchen window. We rescued it and put it in soft-lined shoebox and kept it warm and dark for 15 mins (we keep this ready and are often successful with it). When released it perched for photographs on a rail about 2 metres away (socially distanced!) then flew off in fine fettle.
Really didn't expect to see Stonechat in a suburban Richmond garden.

Flock of 70+ reed bunting in various states of winter attire on Downholme Moor this afternoon, a couple of red grouse, stonechat, bullfinch, and a raven. Flock of 35 lapwing flew over Hudswell this morning heading up Dale.

Bolton on Swale nature reserve. From the hide yesterday. Usual suspects on the feeders, however included a marsh tit, six tree sparrows, in front of the hide, pair of golden eye, little grebes and an excellent view of a little egret stood on an exposed tree stump.

Happy New Year everyone. Let's hope it turns out better than the last one. Off to a good start here in South Otterington with a lovely male blackcap in the garden briefly, presumably overwintering somewhere. Only our third ever sighting of one in the garden, so really good to know it's survived the last few bitter days.

A Great White Egret flew across the road in front of me at Bolton on Swale at 2.30pm this afternoon. I was cycling and stopped to watch it fly west towards the quarry areas.
